Swimclub - “El Lamento!”
Weeks ago I shared “What You Want”, the 60s pop gem debut from Brooklyn’s Swimclub. The guys are back with another video for their latest single “El Lamento!”. The track, along with “What You Want” is off their Funhouse For Friends EP.
“El Lamento!” takes the band in a different direction from where “What You Want” left off. They trade their 60s pop song sound in for a mixture of 80s power pop and early New Wave. One band that quickly comes to mind while listening is the Cars. It’s an interesting departure from “What You Want” (which I loved) but after a few listens “El Lamento!” is just as catchy!
i like these swedish bastards.
Video for “El Lamento!” from our Funhouse For Fiends EP.
good stalking tune. we covered this at cmj 2011 for five people. you know who you are. and we know where you are.

Swimclub - “What You Want”
After taking one listen to “What You Want”, you’d expect the band to be somewhere sunny and warm, Southern California or Florida. While the East Coast did experience an unusually warm winter, I wouldn’t exactly group Brooklyn in with “sunny and warm”. Swimclub call the indie music mecca home, forming in 2007. They’ve released Funhouse for Friends, a 5 song EP full on catchy pop songs. The standout from the EP, “What You Want”, has everything you’d expect from a 60s pop song; jangly guitars, beautiful harmonies and a hook that can’t leave your head no matter how hard you try. Stream/purchase the EP here!

This is my kind of video. Phil Wilson from June Brides doing a sweet version of Kraftwerk’s Neon Lights. Orig here: http://youtu.be/9YCZVeIJ8xk
Swimclub has been known to cover this tune. A great Swedish band. The guy on the right look like Jeff Tweedy.

taught myself the riff from this romantics tune today. harder than i thought. these guys seem like they snorted some drano.
